I have had the privilege of working in some of the most stunning homes in Colorado Springs over the past 20 years. While it may seem, I’ve mastered the art of this craft, I find that each home is uniquely tailored with the homeowner’s vision in mind. When I first meet a new homeowner, we typically begin at the blueprint stage, where numerous questions arise. The most pressing one is often, “Does this plan make sense, and how can we improve the flow?” That’s where our journey begins. I take the time to listen to the homeowner as they share their aspirations for the space: Do they have children? Do they enjoy entertaining? Are there any special considerations we need to address in the construction, such as ensuring that the home accommodates their needs as they age? Once we address these questions, I usually have additional insights that enhance the final drawings. After finalizing the set of drawings, we transition to electrical layouts, cabinetry, garage doors, windows, and plumbing—essential hard finishes that need to be considered early on. Many people assume that the role of the interior designer is limited to the finishing touches, but I’m here to emphasize that it involves both the construction phase and those final details—one cannot exist without the other. The next phase includes tile design, lighting, countertop selections, hardware, plumbing fixtures, wall textures, decorative accents, beams, added wood details, shower doors—the list is extensive. I serve as a liaison between the builder and the homeowner, especially as I familiarize myself with the builder’s expectations regarding timelines and budgets; this is crucial for ensuring a smooth experience. My years of experience have allowed me to save on construction costs by adhering to schedules and budgets. I genuinely love what I do each day; I couldn’t imagine a more fulfilling profession for myself, and I strive to leave my clients with a seamless experience throughout their new build process. I hope to hear from you on your next build, Andrea KinKaid Fauxnomenal Designs
